I am a big fan of Valentine’s Day. Not for the romance or the gifts- but for the fun kid activities. I have always loved cutting hearts out of paper more than anything else.
As a prepper, I tend to cringe at the supply lists for popular Valentine’s crafts. I hate having to use foam pieces or materials that can only be used once and then get thrown away.
Instead, I prefer to choose recycled craft materials or crafts that can be used as decorations. The following list of kids Valentine’s Day crafts are both made from using recycled materials and look good enough to display in any room of your house. You probably can find all the ingredients for these Valentine’s Day crafts at home!
DIY Book Page Valentine Banner
Nothing makes a room look more festive than a seasonal banner. My kids loved helping decorate this book page banner with hearts and snowflakes.
These matchbox Valentines are adorable. I was obsessed with little boxes as a child and would have been delighted to get a valentine that looked like this. Kids will enjoy decorating the boxes and adding their own words.
Recycled Crayon Hearts
One of my favorite uses for broken crayons is to make shaped crayons. I like this tutorial because it doesn’t mix the colors. Each color gets its own heart.
Cardboard Tube Love Bugs
A lot of people make these with toilet paper rolls, but I think that is rather gross, so I would use paper towel tubes. My girls would love making and playing with these cardboard tube love bugs!
Book Page Heart Wreath
This book page heart was a lot of fun to make. Both of my kids got involved in the process dipping and gluing the pages onto the cardboard cutout.
Potato Print Valentine Bunting
If you have some unused fabric lying around, your kids will have a blast transforming potatoes into valentine stamps. After stamping, hang the banner over the mantel or a door frame!
Coffee Filter XO Decoration
This is a messy craft, but my girls loved it. They were quite impressed that such a boring piece of kitchen gear could become something so pretty.
Egg Carton Hearts
I love egg carton crafts. There are so many things you can do with them. But this is the first time I have ever seen them used as wall art.
Recycled Can Heart Tins
If you have any pop-top metal cans, this Valentine’s Day craft would be a good way to make use of them! I could see older kids really enjoying punching the holes into the can.
Hanger Heart Wreath
When I was a girl, I made one of these heart fabric wreaths, so I was quite excited to see them trending again online. This is a perfect way to use up those fabric scraps that are too small for anything else.
Upcycled Christmas Card Valentines
If you have any Christmas cards still lying around, why not transform them into valentines? If your kids are pun lovers, then you will all have a blast coming up with new puns for your valentines.
