My mother always told me breakfast was the most important meal of the day. To this day, I wake up wondering what I’m going to fix for breakfast! My stomach is usually my alarm clock. I was thrilled when I found out the entire month of September is “All American Breakfast Month”. No matter what month of the year it happens to be, I’m sure you’ll find some of the recipes listed below to your liking. They range from healthy breakfast breads, to heaping plates of eggs and veggies.
Blueberry Lemon Bread – Mom Prepares
Whip up a batch of this delicious bread for brunch with friends or serve it with the fresh butter you just made. No matter who or what you decide to eat this breakfast bread with, it’s bound to be tasty! If you don’t have any blueberries on hand, you can always use raspberries or blackberries instead.
Breakfast Burritos – Women’s Health Magazine
Burritos are easy to make and an excellent way combine lots of goodies in an easy-to-hold (and eat!) container. If you aren’t a huge fan of beans, you could cook up some sausage or bacon and mix it with the eggs instead. My favorite breakfast burrito has sauteed garlic and onions mixed in with scrambled eggs. I can eat it while driving to work during the wee hours of the morning.
Crockpot Omelet – Mom Prepares
In my opinion, crockpots are one of the best appliances EVER! I make everything from soups to desserts in mine. The great thing about omelets in general is that you can add anything to them; peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, etc. The combinations are endless.
Golden Nectar Smoothie – Martha Stewart
There are tons of smoothie recipes to choose from on Martha’s site, but the color of this one attracted me the most. After I read the ingredients, I was hooked! I rarely see ginger in a smoothie recipe. This recipe not only has ginger in it, but also orange juice, bananas, and honey. Delicious combo!
Waffles Galore! – Mom Prepares
Did you ever think about waffles coming in different flavors? It’s surprising how many wonderful recipes there are out there for waffles. This article covers only 6 kinds, but they sure are some yummy ones.
Overnight Oats – Kath Eats
This is the perfect breakfast for someone who just doesn’t have time in the morning, but definitely needs to eat something before starting the day. You’ll get the basic recipe from this site and then a seemingly endless list of pictures and toppings! The first time I made overnight oats, I was very skeptical. I expected them to be weird tasting. I don’t know why, but I did. Boy, was I wrong! They are delicious!!
However you decide to celebrate All American Breakfast Month, I hope you can do so with friends or family. Make it a group effort and turn breakfast into a true celebration!
