It’s hot. Even if it was June I’d be complaining. But it’s SEPTEMBER and it’s 102 degrees during the day!!! I’m trying to grow a fall garden and I fear my seeds will bake before they can sprout.
We spent some time in the garden on Sunday and Monday since neither of us had to work. While daddy and big brother were at the lake during the early morning hours, the little guy and I filled two of my new cedar herb boxes with soil and planted basil, thyme, cilantro and chives. When the other boxes are ready I’m going to plant them full of spinach and kale for the winter. In the spring I’ll plant more herbs.
I have the cutest garden helper in the world. Don’t believe me?
When the guys got home we picked the rest of the tomatoes, pulled the plants and then got the soil ready to plant. The kids and I planted peas (a bush variety) and green beans. I also planted rainbow swiss chard and 2 kinds of lettuce.
When we pulled up the tomatoes we pulled a bunch of old mulch off the garden beds. Over half a dozen of these tiny geckos scurried out and started running through the grass. I helped the boys catch one and they both got to hold it. After that the boys weren’t much help in the garden. They were way too busy catching these little lizards!
Does anyone know what kind of geckos these are?
I’m really excited to see these guys have made their home in our garden. They’ll be great natural pest control!
Later on in the week I saw another one dart out of the hose reel. I hope he’s eating spiders cause they like to hide in there.
Do you have garden geckos where you live?
