Whenever possible I try to go the safe and clean route and make my own cleaners and detergents. I feel better knowing my kids won’t be getting into dangerous chemicals and that I won’t be inhaling them while cleaning. I also like knowing that I’m doing something good for the environment.
However, I think the biggest benefit to me as a prepper is cost and convenience. Most homemade cleaners are made from things like lemon juice and vinegar, meaning I usually have them on hand and they’re a lot cheaper than a bottle of conventional cleaners!
Since I’m allergic to almost every scented product the store has to offer, natural cleaners make my life much better all around. Did you know that a couple lemon slices and a couple ice cubes put in your garbage disposal and run with some cool water will deodorize your sink’s disposal? I use this trick often and am so tickled to share it, along with the recipes below!
