January was National Soup Month, but soup is a great menu item all through the cold winter months. This is a small selection of recipes I thought sounded delicious. I’m always up for trying new recipes, of any kind. I hope you like these and find something you enjoy enough to share with friends and family.
Chicken Enchilada Soup – Skinny Taste
I’m all about using my crockpot whenever I can and this recipe combines the use of a crockpot and enchiladas…one of my favorite dinners! This soup is also freezable, which is an additional bonus, in my book.
Shrimp and Chive Dumpling Soup – Whole Living
I don’t find many recipes that use shrimp, so I was intrigued by this one. If you don’t like shrimp, you can always stick with the traditional pork filling in the wontons (dumplings) instead of stuffing them with shrimp.
Tortilla Soup – Health
Tortilla soup was served at a friend’s house a couple of years ago and I’ve never been able to find a decent recipe to match his. However, this one sounds very, very close. The lime wedge is key to adding the finishing touch to your soup. Be sure to squeeze it over the top of your soup right before you are about to eat it.
Sweet Potato-Peanut Bisque – Eating Well
I’m not a huge fan of white or red potatoes, but I’m all for eating sweet potatoes just about any time of day. I enjoy many recipes with peanut butter in them as well, so this particular recipe caught my eye. I’ll definitely be trying this recipe this weekend. It sounds perfect for a cold, wintry day.
Black Bean, Sweet Potato, & Red Quinoa Soup – Oh She Glows
Quinoa is a staple around my house in the winter time, which is one of the reasons I decided to add this recipe to my list of soups to try. This one also required sweet potatoes and I always have plenty of those on hand as well. You could add chicken to this soup, if you’d like, but the quinoa provides plenty of protein and doesn’t take that long to cook.
Mushroom and White Bean Soup – Treehugger
If you like mushrooms and creamy soups, then you’ll enjoy this recipe. It’s a lovely, thick soup that would go great with freshly baked bread. Most of these ingredients are ones I almost always have, so it will be a handy recipe to keep among my favorites.
Cream of Tomato Soup – Mom Prepares
A simple and healthy soup that takes 3 minutes to put it together with the help of a blender. It’s easily adaptable to deal with allergies and the healthiest ingredients.

Chicken Barley Soup – Taste of Home
This soup doesn’t require any fancy ingredients. However, it will take a bit of time to prepare, unless you use pre-cooked chicken. Once you cook the chicken, it and the rest of the ingredients could easily be tossed into a crockpot to slow cook.
Hot and Sour Soup with Tofu – My Recipes
My husband is a huge fan of Hot and Sour soup and I thought this would be a good recipe to try out on him some afternoon. He doesn’t get excited about tofu though, so that might be an issue. The combination of ingredients sounded yummy to me. It also seems like any easy recipe to prepare.
