When the weather starts to warm, much of the United States sees tornadoes
and other seemingly malicious weather. I live in Texas, and we generally have at least one tornado scare each year. We live on the third floor, so it is especially important for us to have a tornado emergency plan!
If you prepare for emergencies, such as tornadoes, then you won’t be caught unawares when a tornado strikes. A panicked mom leads to all sorts of trouble, and the easiest way to avoid panic is for everyone to have a plan. Try these tips for weathering tornadoes this year:
Preparing Tornado Supplies
You will want to have some supplies on hand before a tornado strikes. Growing up, we basically had batteries, a radio, and a flashlight; but the better your emergency kit, the better your chances of avoiding injuries will be. Stock an emergency kit with these items:
- 3 days of food
- 3 days of water
- Phone, tablet, computer, and other electronics chargers
- Needed medications
- Emergency info (doctor’s number, medications, allergies, health conditions)
- Home and vehicle insurance information (just in case)
In addition to your emergency kit, you should always try to keep your car at least half full of gas. That way, if you have to leave town fast, you won’t have to delay at the gas station along the way.
