You may have been hearing from people considered “conspiracy theorists,” that our government has been “targeting” preppers and conservatively-minded individuals. You also probably thought that such theories were not only improbable, but silly. However, while that may be the case, some of these “theories” may have a grain of truth in them — a recent report by Fox News states that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been singling-out conservatives.
The IRS Targets Preppers/Conservatives.
According to yesterday’s article on Fox News, “The IRS apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was “inappropriate” targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. The agency blamed low-level employees, saying no high-level officials were aware. Lois Lerner, who runs the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt organizations, knew about the targeting of Tea Party groups since June 29, 2011.” This confirms what many people thought – the IRS has been denying what actually is true – that they have been going on hyper-activity every time they saw a “Tea Party,” `’Patriot” or “9/12 Project.” The 9-12 project was started by conservative figure Glenn Beck.
What Does our Government Have to Say for Itself?
Apparently, the IRS is none too happy that this information leaked out. Also, President Obama spoke today on several issues, including the IRS scandal; according to the New York Times, he said: “he learned about those allegations from news media reports on Friday. He repeatedly called the charges “outrageous,” if true, and said that anyone found to be guilty of such actions should be held accountable. “I’ve got no patience for it,” he said. “I will not tolerate it.”
Some figures in the government program are even suggesting they had no idea about the goings-on of the targeting, and said that most likely the lower employees were responsible. Where did this targeting become official? Fox News says that “On Jan, 25, 2012, the criteria for flagging suspect groups was changed to, “political action type organizations involved in limiting/expanding Government, educating on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, social economic reform/movement.” Formerly, since the 2008 elections, the investigation requirements actually included the words “Tea Party.” To make this requirement more generic, they changed it to “political action type organizations involved in limiting/expanding Government, educating on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, social economic reform/movement.”
Is There Anything I Can Do?
You cannot change the government’s mind. However, you can make a choice – do you want to be an outright prepper/conservative, or would you prefer to keep it secret? Perhaps, would you like to take a happy medium – not shouting from the rooftops, and not hiding in the woods as a hermit? Please let us know what you think!
