Howard Garrett, aka The Dirt Doctor, is a landscape architect, arborist, and a nationally syndicated radio talk show host. After seeing how his young daughter put everything in her mouth he decided to stop using chemicals of any kind in his garden. Since 1988 he has studied and promoted organic practices and products.
Howard Garrett has written 15 books about organic garden practices, and mentions in the podcast that even if the book has the word “Texas” in the title it is adaptable for every area of the country.
Listen to hear why the native soil is a major part of the garden bed preparation, his tree planting techniques, why organic gardeners don’t like potting soil with peat moss in it, what you can find at the feed store for your organic garden, why you should never throw away coffee grounds, natural ways to take care of insect pests, how he mixes edible plants all through his landscape, and much more!
