My prepper pantry is always stocked with goods to use in just about any type of recipe. I love the way the recipe for a Rocky Road Crock Pot Cake in the Mom Prepares Hassle-free guide to slow-cooker desserts looks, so I decided to see how I could make it without going to the grocery store for more fresh stuff. I love my prepper’s pantry – and the cake? It was marvelous!
Rocky Road Crock Pot Cake: How it Turned Out
The cake was super moist and tasty! Putting flax meal in place of the eggs and using evaporated milk instead of regular milk didn’t create a funky taste at all – it was yummy. It probably didn’t rise as high as the original cake did, but I’m only going by the pictures I saw and not the actual cake. I thought about substituting flax meal for the butter in the original recipe as well, but I didn’t want to make too many changes all at once.
Converting Recipes to Used Pantry Items
I always have evaporated milk on hand, as well as flax meal. So, using them in place of fresh eggs, butter, or regular milk is something I’ve done for quite a few recipes in the past. I love making these little changes – my Prepper’s Pantry is a great place to go grocery shopping – especially when I want to make an easy slow-cooker dessert like this!
