Homemade Nursing Balm

Lanolin has been the recommended go-to nursing cream for many years. What you may not know is that lanolin is sebum that is extracted from a sheep’s sebaceous glands.

It isn’t something we would want to rub on our body or allow our babies to ingest, especially when there is a more natural way.

This is a great homemade nipple cream recipe to help heal sore nipples during pregnancy.

Shelf Life: 6 months—1 year

Benefits: The olive oil and cocoa butter will help to keep your nipples moisturized, and is safe for babies’ consumption. The chamomile will help to soothe and heal irritated skin.

Tips and Tricks: Use a shallow container with a lid that is easy to remove. It will make things easier while holding your baby.

Variations: Feel free to switch olive oil to food grade avocado oil.

How to Use: Apply this balm to your nipples after every nursing session. Start using right away to help prevent irritated nipples.

Hello, does olive oil have better healing properties than coconut oil? I would like to try this with coconut oil, but also want to hear the reason olive oil was chosen :)

    Thank you

Olive oil is better at moisturizing. Coconut oil on the other hand often makes skin a dryer and it’s not very good at moisturizing. But really as long as the oils are safe for the baby they are fine to mix. So you could do olive oil, coconut oil,and cocoa butter or you could do olive oil and Shea butter or you could do Cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil. I probably wouldn’t do that but you could do that if you wanted to.
