This homemade cough syrup recipe is amazing for easing coughs and cold symptoms and boosting your immune system. Oh, and it tastes delicious!

You don’t need to wait for a cough to have this syrup either—it’s a great immune booster and can be enjoyed at any time.

Benefits: Why do we cough? It’s our bodies’ way of removing excess mucus from the throat and lungs. This syrup helps your body to loosen the mucus, making it easier to release. It also helps to soothe a sore throat.

Honey is antiviral and antimicrobial, and studies have shown that it is as effective as over the counter medications at alleviating coughs!

Apple cider vinegar helps to soothe the throat and ease inflammation while helping to stop the spread of infection. It’s also a powerful immune booster!

Lemon helps to boost the immune system and has antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Pineapple is full of vitamin C and helps to break up mucus in the body. It’s also high in an enzyme called bromelain, which fights inflammation and kills bacteria.

Ginger is full of antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory, and antiviral. It’s also a natural decongestant and contains oleoresin, which helps to relieve coughing.

Cayenne pepper helps to improve circulation, warming the body and helping to loosen mucus.

Tips and Tricks: Choose between ACV, lemon, or pineapple or use a combination of the three!
You can take this by the tablespoon or mix into a glass of warm water for a delicious, soothing drink.

Just make sure the water is warm, not hot, so you preserve the health benefits in the raw honey.

How to Use: Children take 1 tablespoon every 3 hours. Adults take 2 tablespoon every 3 hours.

Description

This homemade cough syrup recipe is amazing for easing coughs and cold symptoms and boosting your immune system.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or fresh lemon juice or fresh pineapple juice)
  • 1 tbsp ginger juice (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Tools & Supplies

  • Bowl
  • Measuring cup and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Grater (if using ginger)
  • Cheesecloth or nut milk bag (if using ginger)
  • Sanitized jar

Instructions

  1. If using ginger, peel root and then grate with a cheese grater. Squeeze shredded ginger through a cheesecloth or nut milk bag, reserving the juice and throwing away the pulp. This sounds time consuming, but you’ll be amazed at how much juice you can extract from a small amount of ginger!
  2. Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl. If you’re making the full batch and will be storing it in the fridge, use apple cider vinegar, as the pineapple and lemon juices will oxidize after a day or two and not be as effective. If making enough for one day, you can use the lemon and pineapple.
  3. Scoop into jar and store in fridge.

Notes

This is NOT recommended for children under 1.
