Unlike most cleaning products, which use a chemical reaction to get the job done, homemade scouring powder physically scrubs away dirt and grime.
This simple DIY version will leave your surfaces sparkling.
Shelf Life: 1 year+
Benefits: Baking soda is mildly abrasive and helps to sanitize, remove stains, and deodorize.
The salt is also abrasive and it has the added benefit of scrubbing away the white film that baking soda can leave behind if used on its own.
Cinnamon adds a nice scent to the scrub.
Tips and Tricks: Store in a large shaker jar for easy application.
Do a small test patch on surfaces to be sure this solution won’t scratch the surface. New stove- tops in particular may be prone to scratching. You can omit the salt for more delicate/scratch prone surfaces.
Variations: For extra cleaning you can add 1⁄2 cup washing soda.
How to Use: Wet your surface (tub, sink, counter, etc.), and then shake powder on. Let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub, using a cleaning brush.
Rinse and repeat if necessary.
