When I was little I suffered a lot from ear aches. When I’d complain about my ears hurting mom would pour a cupful of rice in a sock and warm it on a baking sheet in the oven. When it was good and warm she’d pull it out, tie off the sock with a rubberband, then wrap the whole thing in a pretty fabric. I remember these little heat packs being soft and comforting and something we could reuse.

Freezing water in a bag or container works, but it’s not flexible or comfortable. If you don’t have one of those fancy rubbery bags with a screw on lid that you can put ice and water in, these DIY Ice Packs will do the trick! Be sure to make a couple and keep them in the freezer so you can swap them out when they get warm. The video below will show you how to make these and what materials you’ll need.
