4 Natural Detox Bath Recipes

There are so many amazing detox bath options, and this is the kind of recipe you can play around with without having to follow a strict recipe.

Below we’ve listed some ingredients that are great to use in baths, so you can mix and match your own combinations.

OPTIONAL BATH INGREDIENTS

Bentonite Clay: Bentonite clay is amazing for detoxification—it pulls heavy metals, toxins, chemicals, bacteria, and excess oils from your skin. The clay is also full of minerals, so while it pulls out the “bad” stuff, it leaves behind the “good” stuff!
Use: 1⁄2 cup per bath

NOTE: There are many different kinds of clays you can use, but bentonite offers the most powerful detoxification and benefits.

Baking Soda: Soothes, softens, and gently exfoliates the skin. Helps to heal infections. Detoxifies and absorbs heavy metals and radiation.
Use: 1–2 cups per bath

Epsom Salts: Helps to detoxify the body, decrease inflammation, and provide a dose of magnesium.
Use: 1–2 cups per bath

Sea Salt: Packed with minerals, this salt helps to relax and revitalize your body, increase circulation, promote detoxification, and nourish your skin. There are many kinds of sea salts including Dead Sea, Hawaiian, and Black Sea.
Use: 1–2 cups per bath

Ocean Water: Rather than adding sea salt to your bath water, why not go right to the source? If you live near a clean beach, collect a few jars of seawater to use in your bath.
Use: 1 cup or more per bath

ACV: Detoxifying and anti-inflammatory. ACV also helps to balance the skin’s pH levels.
Use: 1 cup per bath

Seaweed (fresh, flakes, or powder): Seaweed is chock full of minerals and adding them to your bath remineralizes your skin, helps to increase circulation, and draws out toxins. If you live near a clean beach, you can actually collect seaweed straight from the sea to use in your bath (collect seaweed from the ocean, not from the shore). Otherwise, add powder or flakes to your bath.
Use: 1⁄2—1 cup per bath

TIP: if using flakes, put them in a fine mesh bag to avoid getting flakes all over your tub.

Green Tea: The antioxidants in green tea help to detoxify your body, while its antiseptic properties soothe the skin.
Use: 2 cups strong green tea (2 bags steeped for 20 min) per bath.

Ginger: Ginger helps to improve circulation and induces a healthy sweat, which opens pores and allows the body to release toxins.
Use: 1 cup ginger tea OR 1 teaspoon powdered ginger per bath

Essential Oils: Benefits vary depending on the oil used. Oils shouldn’t be added directly to water, but rather mixed in with a carrier like oil, salt, or baking soda.
Use: 5–10 drops in a carrier per bath.

THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS ARE NOT DETOXIFYING, BUT ADD GREAT BENEFITS TO YOUR BATH!

Coconut Milk or Coconut Milk Powder: Coconut milk’s high fat, mineral, and vitamin contents make it perfect for hydrating and nourishing your skin!
Use: 1 cup per bath

Oil: Softens, soothes, and hydrates the skin. Benefits vary depending on the oil used.
Use: 1⁄8–1⁄4 cup per bath

Raw Honey: Hydrating and full of antioxidants.
Use: 2–3 tablespoon per bath

How to Use: Prep for your bath by exfoliating with either our body scrub or a dry brush.

This removes dead skin cells, allowing the bath ingredients to penetrate your skin easily, and helps to get lymph and blood flow moving, which is detoxifying in itself.

Run your bath and add your ingredients. Soak for 20-40 min.

After your bath, be sure to rinse off in the shower to remove any toxins and residue. Follow up with one of our body oils, lotions, or butters.

Tips and Tricks: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your bath.

Use water that is as hot as you can comfortably handle—the heat helps to enhance the detoxifying benefits.

NOTE: Hot detox baths are not recommended if you have certain medical conditions like high blood pressure or if you are pregnant. Consult your healthcare practitioner if you think there may be a conflict.

Description

Harness the healing power of the sea with this Thalassotherapy bath treatment! Derived from the Greek words Thalasso (‘sea’) and therapy (‘treatment’), using elements from the ocean is an ancient and very therapeutic practice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups dead sea clay
  • 2 cups seaweed flakes or powder
  • 2 cups sea salt
  • 20 drops drops essential oil

Tools & Supplies

  • Glass/ceramic bowl
  • Measuring Cup
  • Wooden spoon
  • Large glass jar

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients into a bowl and stir until evenly mixed.
  2. Scoop into glass jar.
  3. Shake or stir before using.

Notes

How to Use: Pour 1 cup into hot bath water and soak for a minimum of 20 min.

Variations: Sub Dead Sea clay for clay of your choice (bentonite is a great option for deep detoxification) and sea salt for unrefined salt of your choice (Himalayan, epsom, etc.)

NOTE: If you’re using bentonite clay, avoid using any metal. Bentonite loses some of its effectiveness when it comes into contact with metal. It’s best to stick with wooden utensils and ceramic or glass bowls.
