Natural Magnesium Deodorant Spray Recipe

Magnesium is a vital mineral for our health and well-being, and one that many people are deficient in.

Using magnesium in your deodorant not only offers an effective alternative to a chemical filled antiperspirant, but it also gives you your daily dose of this important mineral!

Shelf Life: 6 months (may lose potency after 6 months)

Benefits: In addition to having countless benefits, magnesium can actually help to deodorize your body from the inside out!

So while this combo of magnesium, witch hazel, and bacterial-busting essential oils help to protect you from odor externally, the magnesium will also be absorbed into your body and help to minimize odor from the start.

Witch hazel is also an antibacterial, so it kills off odor causing bacteria.

Tips and Tricks: You can use any essential oil you like here, but for added benefit use an oil with anti- bacterial properties like lavender, tea tree, rosemary, geranium, or lemon.

You may find that the magnesium oil causes mild skin irritation. This should go away after a few uses but if it doesn’t, add more water to your bottle to dilute the mixture.

How to Use: Shake before using. Use 5 spritzes per underarm. Avoid using if you have razor nicks/razor burn.

Level of Difficulty: Easy

Description

Want to make your own natural magnesium deodorant?

Magnesium is a vital mineral for our health and well-being, and one that many people are deficient in.

Using magnesium in your deodorant not only offers an effective alternative to a chemical filled antiperspirant, but it also gives you your daily dose of this important mineral!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup magnesium chloride flakes (not nature calm)
  • 1/4 cup warm distilled water
  • 2 tbsp witch hazel
  • 10–15 drops essential oil of your choice

Tools & Supplies

  • pot
  • bowl
  • measuring cup
  • spoon
  • funnel
  • Sanitized glass spray bottle

Instructions

  1. Heat distilled water in a pot until warm but not boiling.
  2. Pour water into a bowl and add magnesium flakes. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Add witch hazel and essential oils of choic
  4. Using a funnel, pour mixture into a 5 oz. glass spray bottle.

UNDERARM DETOX

  1. Mix 1 tablespoon bentonite clay with enough distilled water to form a paste (be sure to use a wooden spoon or even your finger—bentonite clay should not come into contact with metal).
  2. Spread the mixture onto your freshly washed underarms and allow to sit for 10 min.
  3. Rinse off and follow up with our magnesium or grapefruit deodorant.
  4. This clay helps to pull chemicals and toxins from the tissues in your armpits, clearing the area and thus speeding up the detox.

Notes

You can use the magnesium oil as a deodorant on its own, or use the following recipe.

Some people can find the transition period from using commercial deodorant to a natural DIY version quite challenging.

You may find that you are extra sweaty or have more odor as your body adapts to the switch. This isn’t fun, and one way to help ease the process is with an underarm detox.
