Buying essential oils can be confusing and frustrating. It’s a booming industry, projected to reach 11.67 billion dollars by 2022 and everyone wants a piece of the pie.
So I guess you can say the billion dollar question is:
what are the best essential oil brands where quality isn’t compromised by price?
In this article, you’ll find a unique breakdown of the most ‘popular’ essential oil brands without bias. Here’s how we conducted our reviews.
Note: Plant Therapy, Rocky Mountain Oils, and Mountain Rose Herbs have answered some questions from our readers. If you have questions about a certain brand, feel free to leave a comment.
The Search for the Best Essential Oil Brands
We chose 19 of the top brands based on popularity. We defined popularity by the average number of monthly Google searches as well as public familiarity.
This gives us an objective idea of what the general public is searching for and removes bias from what we use here at Mom Prepares.
The original article reviewed 9 essential oil companies in 2018, but based on the comments from our readers, we’ve added 10 more reviews to include new and upcoming EO brands in 2019.
In the spirit of an “unbiased review,” we have ordered the companies based on the highest to lowest number of monthly brand name searches. The actual reviews below are in alphabetical order.
Note: This does not represent our personal opinions or the public’s opinion on quality.

What are the Best Essential Oils?
Based on our survey (2,347 respondents), the most popular essential oils found in regular users’ homes include:
- Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)
- Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
- Lemon (Citrus limon)
- Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
- Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)
In addition to popularity, we chose oils that have plenty of research to support their uses and health benefits.
So without further ado, let’s dive into each company review (in alphabetical order).
Art Naturals
Art Natural began in 2013 and has grown substantially since then. They offer a substantial product line including hair and skin care products, a men’s care line, and diffusers in addition to essential oils and blends.
The company offers daily deals when you sign up for their emails, affiliate program, brand ambassador program called Naturalites, and wholesale pricing.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
Art Naturals has each batch of their oils independently tested, and they publish the results for each oil on their site. This can be accessed by clicking on the oil you wish and then clicking ‘Analysis.’
However, Dr. Robert Pappas ran an independent GC/MS test in his own lab and found Art Natural’s lavender oil to be heavily adulterated.
To summarize, both of these oils contained:
- ~25% dihyrdrolinalool linalool (synthetic)
- 40-50% dihydrolinalyl linalool acetate (synthetic)
Neither of these should exist in a true “pure” lavender oil as these cannot be found in nature.
He also mentioned that the source of Art Naturals appears to be the same as Radha Beauty.
Take it as you will, but pure oils should not contain these components as Dr. Pappas so eloquently suggests.
FDA Interactions
There are no found interactions as of the time of this writing.

Frontier’s entire product line consists of aromatherapy and essential oil products in Aura Cacia; herbs, spices, and cooking ingredients; and over 10,000 natural products.
Consumers can become an associate member for life for a one-time fee of $10. This gives them 10 percent off of every order throughout the whole co-op and a five percent annual rebate on all purchases.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
Aura Cacia tests every single oil for purity and quality. In the third-party reports that were found online, all tested oils were found to be free of adulterants and contaminants and had the expected constituents.

I could not find any links to test results on the site. I am waiting on an email response as to whether they provide them, and will update this as soon as I receive it.
However, I did find a four-page PDF explaining the testing procedures, which also perhaps outlines why I could not find them on-site.

doTERRA
doTERRA was founded in 2008 and was named after a Latin word meaning “gift of the earth.”
The company was created by former officers, distributors, and other employees that were previously employed by Young Living, including David Stirling. Stirling is Young Living’s former chief operating officer (COO) and is doTERRA’s chief executive officer (CEO) and chairman.
They created a ‘standard’ of ‘therapeutic’ quality they named Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® (CPTG). However, ‘therapeutic quality’ essential oils and CPTG are both marketing terms. Neither is recognized by governing aromatherapy bodies.
doTERRA’s product line includes supplements, proprietary blends, weight management and personal care products, and diffusers.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
doTERRA put their oils through rigorous in-house testing to ensure quality. Nonetheless, a random sampling of 11 third-party tests resulted in two different oil blends having unexpected results:
However, the company offers batch GC/MS reports on their oils at the Source to You site. Entering your unique ‘quality ID’ located on the bottle provides you with the results from an independent third-party testing facility.
FDA Interactions
On September 22, 2014, the FDA sent a warning letter to doTERRA concerning the promotion of their oils as drugs that treat diseases by unlicensed practitioners on sites that send consumers to doTERRA to purchase the oils for those purposes.
doTERRA was also mentioned on page 161 of a 224-page briefing document for a meeting dated June 23, 2016, of the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC).
The section was about adverse effects of tea tree oil and stated “…case involved internal use of TTO (Doterra) to “combat cancer, cure yeast infection and strengthen immune system” with daily ingestion for multiple episodes.”
Overall sentiments
doTERRA enjoys a loyal following of distributors. The impression is that the oils are of good quality.

Fabulous Frannie
Established in 2014, Fabulous Frannie is one of the newer suppliers to make our list. They appear to be committed to quality.
According to their about page, Fabulous Frannie’s unique name comes from familial ties, as does their motto. The matriarch of the family, ‘Frannie,’ used to say:
If you want to be the best, you have to give your best.
Their products claim to be vegan and cruelty-free, and they have a broad line of products besides essential oils, including men’s products like beard oil and wax, aftershave and shave soap.
In addition, they feature bath salts and bombs, as well as natural cleaning products for your home.

Healing Solutions
Healing Solutions began as a way to get quality essential oils directly to the consumer without having to pay the significant costs of membership programs.
While they do not have a bonus system, they do offer a tiered oil(s) of the month club. Their monthly offerings are:
- $9.95 – one essential oil
- $19.95 – one essential oil and one “premium” essential oil
- $24.95 – one essential oil, one “premium” essential oil, and one blend
Quality (GC/MS test results)
While many companies do not offer test results on their site, Healing Solutions provides a page where you can check the GC/MS reports of their top 15 oils.
Additionally, the page for the analysis of each oil shows the date it was tested. These are completed by their in-house lab chemist, not a third party, so that must be taken into account.
In fact, Dr. Pappas explicitly states: “Healing solutions. I’ve exposed them several times. They’re selling garbage.”
If you intend on using essential oils for therapeutic purposes, you may want to consider oils that are tested by third parties and verified as pure.
FDA Interactions
At this time, there does not appear to be any interactions with Healing Solutions and the FDA.

Kis Oils
Kis oils is a small bottling facility located in Brooklyn, NY. They believe in small footprints, sourcing domestic manufacturers whenever possible, and giving customers a fair price that isn’t driven up by multi-level marketing plans.
Their website is online, but the shop is under construction.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
Kis offers manufacturer safety data sheets (MSDS) on each of their oils. This is not the same as a gas chromatography or mass spectrometry test (GC/MS).
However, there is a section on each MSDS outlining the main constituents of the oil.
FDA Interactions
As of the time of this writing, there are no known interactions between Kis and the FDA.
Overall Sentiments
As the store is not operational, it is unclear whether the reviews or prices are real or not. Having the same price for all of the above oils is a red flag, but they may be updated before the store is open for business.
The phone number is not currently working for the company, and an email has gone unanswered. This page will be updated with any new information.
Price
Essential Oil | Price (per mL) |

The company offers a full line of essential oils, blends, bath, body, and hair care products, as well as special collections such as their 24K gold line.
They sell larger bottles than most companies, generally ranging between 1-4 ounces.
Note: All prices listed below are based on 4oz bottle sizes.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
Majestic Pure has an informational page linking to the test results of some of their oils. The analysis is done through a third party, Essential Validation Services (EVS), and are available on Google Drive.
While we did not find any failed GC/MS tests, Dr. Robert Pappas found some interesting things inside a bottle of Majestic Pure lavender.
Like Art Naturals and Radha Beauty, his results showed that the lavender oil he purchased was far from pure. It did contain ~25% dihyrdrolinalool linalool (synthetic) and 40-50% dihydrolinalyl linalool acetate.
In addition to these, his report showed around 2% cumarin, which is a carcinogen used in the fragrance industry. You can watch that clip here.
FDA Interactions
The FDA has not had any contact with Majestic Pure, that we are aware of.
Overall Sentiments
The overall sentiment of Majestic Pure products is positive, with essential oils on Amazon rating four or more stars. Some of their other product line offerings rate only 3.5 stars.

FDA Interactions
We were unable to find any interactions between Mountain Rose Herbs and the FDA.
Overall sentiments
There are no reviews on the Mountain Rose site. That being said, those found in conversations online are both positive and negative. Many of the negative reviews center around slow and overpriced shipping. However, all orders are processed and packed manually.

Juilliard alumni, ballerina, and model Rebekah Letch was fed up with her skin being flaky and breaking out even after working with some of the world’s leading makeup artists.
After doing some research, she was alarmed to discover the numerous chemicals in cosmetics and beauty products. This led her to more investigation, and in 2014, Radha Beauty was launched.
On their site, you can find a full line of not only essential oils and blends, but skincare, hair, and body care lines as well. You can purchase sets of 10-milliliter bottles, while single oils by themselves are sold by larger quantities. Prices below are based on four-ounce bottles.

The oil was ~65-70% made of synthetic material.

Revive
Revive seems to be new to the scene. Their products are only available on their site. There is no ‘about’ page or any background on the company available, and I am waiting on an email response about when they began.
Free shipping is offered both in the continental US and internationally. They offer a 100% money-back guarantee with free returns for 100 days.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
Revive offers images of each oil’s GC/MS test results. You can reach them by clicking on the page of the respective oil, then clicking on the ‘+’ sign next to “Safety and Test Results,” and clicking on the link.
FDA Interactions
There are currently no interactions found between the FDA and Revive, as far as we know.
Overall Sentiments
It is hard to tell what the overall view of these oils are. They are currently not available on Amazon, which is a go-to resource for consumers to get unbiased reviews. Since a company can “control” which reviews are shown on their website, it’s up to your own discretion.
The reviews date back to 2017. However, there is a large gap between November 2017 to May 2018. The company appears new, so time will tell.

Rocky Mountain Oils
Rocky Mountain Oils (RMO) began in 2004 with a group of wellness professionals, and the company grew with the purchase of Native American Nutritionals (NAN).
Besides single oils, RMO offers blends on par with favorites formulated by the top MLM oil companies.
The company sets itself apart with a 90-day return policy that includes opened products and return shipping paid for. Moreover, shipping within the U.S. is always free, and delivery is guaranteed within 3-7 business days; both of which are almost unheard of in this industry.
Rocky Mountain Oils offer the ‘Oil’ty’ rewards program that earns points on every dollar spent, extra discounts for professionals, and an affiliate program.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
Rocky Mountain Oils employs external third-party testing. In-house, they put the oils through even more testing, including organoleptic, GC/MS, refractive index, and more.
They offer the Rocky Mountain Oils S.A.A.F.E. Promise™ on the oils, which stands for satisfaction guaranteed, authentic, analysis, free of adulterants, and effective and pure.
Every oil comes with a batch code that can be entered on the site to check the GC/MS reports. Customers can also call or email the company to request the reports on any oil they are considering purchasing.
FDA Interactions
We were unable to find any interactions between Rocky Mountain Oils and the FDA.
Overall sentiments
The reviews on Rocky Mountain Oils are positive on both their site and Amazon. Both singles and blends are mostly four stars or higher, so customers seem pleased with their oils.

Young Living
Young Living was founded in 1994 by D. Gary and Mary Young. They offer a full line of essential oils backed by their proprietary Seed to Seal® promise which guarantees the purity and quality of their oils from the time they are planted until they are bottled.
They also grow plants to distill oils on farms throughout the world.
The company was a pioneer in bringing essential oils to the masses. They follow a multi-level marketing business model that has enabled thousands of people to go into business for themselves.
While the company is headquartered in Utah, they have offices in Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Singapore.
Young Living also offers diffusers, accessories, supplements, beauty and hair care products, proprietary custom blends, and blends made for animals and children.
Quality (GC/MS test results)
Young Living does not offer their GC/MS test results online, and there is no way to batch check any particular bottle purchased. People are instructed to email productsupport@youngliving.com for further information.
Unfortunately, this does not help either, as the response to an inquiry states:
We are unable to provide this information as these reports contain proprietary information as to what constituents we deem most therapeutic and are therefore regarded as trade secrets.
Patents and trademarks do not adequately protect this information, as you cannot patent or trademark an oil.
A small sampling of third-party tests found, a number failed to have the expected constituents: four separate batches of cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum verum), four spearmint and two spearmint vitality (Mentha spicata), as well as one of their ‘Thieves’ blends.
There were a total of 16 different types of oils tested. Here are links to the failed reports:
- Cinnamon Bark – Lot 14120235
- Cinnamon Bark – Lot 15B10032
- Cinnamon Bark – Lot 16121203
- Thieves Blend – Lot 15A13006
FDA Interactions
On September 22, 2014, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent a warning letter to Young Living. It addressed concerns about the claims distributors were making about the products.
Overall sentiments
There are many conflicting opinions about Young Living. Most people agree that their oils are quality.
As far as the company itself, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) revoked their accreditation on July 13, 2017.
Before that, it was graded ‘A.’ There are currently 28 positive reviews, 24 negative reviews, one neutral, and 99 customer complaints listed on the site.

Conclusion
So what are the best essential oils?
Everyone on this list of essential oils companies is generally viewed as top grade and offer some of the best quality, highest rated, and most pure essential oils available in the United States.
When you set out to compare essential oil brands, it is important not to get caught up in industry terms that are often nothing more than marketing jargon.
Marketing savvy and a higher price tag do not always equate to the strongest or best essential oils.
What essential oil companies do you buy from? I’d love to hear your brand of choice in the comments below.
I am fairly new to oils.. and I have started a membership with Young Living. I am happy with my choices so far but have been looking at Vitality, DoTerra and have purchased from both.
Lifelong Vitality will change your life!
#doterra has changed mine!!
I started lifelong vitality, and it is great also use adaptiv & mito2max for extra energy, (quit coffee & soda habit)
I LOVE DoTERRA!!! I have been using these oils for years now!! With these oils I have been able to STOP using controlled pain meds (opiates) for 374 days now!!! While I will have pain for the rest of my life with my back, I’m using something that helps my body not hinder it! Thanks DoTerra.
May I ask what you use? My best friend has had horrid knee pain and I’d love to advise her. Thank you.
I use Panaway from Young Living for back pain. It has changed my world.
I have used Eden’s Garden for a few years now. Very happy with quality and price.
There’s also a company called Arbonne they are plant-based as well and I Didn’t see them mention in this article so they may want to check them out.
What an absolutely AMAZING review. I am a big fan of Plant Therapy and have been using their oils for years now. In my opinion, they have the best essential oils! Thank you for sharing!
Are Plant Therapy oils ingestible? I was using Young Living, where the bottles are clearly marked, but switched to Plant Therapy recently, and can’t tell what may or may not be ingestible.
This is a great question Monika. Essential oils can be ingested however, we recommend doing so with great care. When done incorrectly, without the proper expertise, damage can occur. When taking essential oils internally, in a medicinal manner, we suggestion working with a qualified Clinical Aromatherapist.
I purchase my oils from several different suppliers including, Now, Aura Cacia, Plant Therapy, Eden’s Garden, Simply Earth, etc. Although I don’t commit to just one company, all of the companies that I do purchase from offer thorough testing w/readily available results to the consumer. I do not & will not purchase from any company that is operated under a MLM business model because there are better companies with better quality oils that are truly trying to make a difference rather than just make a dollar. Thank you for your awesome un- biased opinion.
I totally agree with you! Those are ALL the same lines I use! I refuse to use any MLM products!
I agree, I sold Doterra and from a representative standpoint they are extremely unethical and have very shady practices. They were double charging me on state taxes. I had other problems with them and quit because of their lack of ethical business practices. I did like their oils but found other oils comparable
I use Ameo essential oils. Ameo is relatively new to the essential oil market. It has attracted world leaders in aromatherapy and clinical essential oils. Some of the people that endorse/back Ameo include:
– Former YL executives – Dr. Doug Nelson, Matt Warner, Mike McLean, and Jon Raynes (he was also an executive with doTerra).
– McKenna Gordon, formerly with doTerra.
– Pierre Franchomme, Aromatologist and pharmacologist. Founder of the “International School of Aromatherapy”
– Dr. Peneol, M.D., world renowned Aromatherapist
– Dr. Scott Johnson, Naturopath, Aromatherapist, author and former YL executive
– Dr. Joshua Plant
Ameo uses evidence-based research as a basis for its products. Individual batch codes take you to all the tests performed on the batch including GC/MS, confocal fluorescence microscopy, infrared, organoleptic, refractive index, optical rotation, specific gravity as well as testing for heavy metals and destructive pathogens. All of these results are readily available online. Ameo products are processed in a NSF certified facility (the same certification required for pharmaceutical companies).
The Mayo clinic even used Ameo oils.
Thanks for sharing, Susan. I haven’t heard much about Ameo, but will definitely look into them a bit more.
Is Ameo Essential Oils an MLM company?
I will always use Ameo. Their openness, quality and proven efficacy is beyond all others.
Thank you, I will check them out!
I’m so surprised you didn’t list Revive. I switched over, from Young Living to Revive a few months ago, and LOVE the oils. And, they are so much cheaper!
Revive is on this list
Absolutely love Plant Therapy! Been using them for almost a year now!
I also love Plant Therapy. Great company with awesome customer service. Quality oils too.
I use Plant Therapy and have been very pleased with their oils, their ethics & their service. Ive had to buy some oils from other companies when PT didn’t carry the ones i needed. I liked Edens Garden but they dont have organic which i have been advised that non organic oils do carry minor amounts of pesticides etc. i’ve just bought oils from a company called Goddess of Spring whose supplier is Primavera which is located in Germany and all thier oils are made there from thier plants grown there and are rigerously tested for purity and quality. I would love to see an analysis done on this company.
Hi All, I am a believer in the healing properties and benefits of essential oils. I have a problem with new comers who advice people to enjest essential oils for medicinal purposes. I have witnessed young living sales reps encouraging this. Essentiall oils are renal and hepatic (liver) toxic.
Do your research before using any oils, educate yourself and use them appropriately. Be safe and take care.
And last but not least, there is such a wide range of cost. I appreciate the Aura Cacia for years and find their quiality to be excellent. I have difficulty appreciating sales reps that are in a pyramid system or a company you have to join or to buy their product, who really benefits from this. Being stressed to make a sale isn’t healthy. Isn’t that the bhh pal, to relax, be heathly and encourage harmony? Okay, I’m done.
I also use Piping Rock, Now, and Lucky’s essential oil. All are excellent quality. Peace!
Thanks for sharing, Alma. I think you touched on a pretty sensitive topic (ingesting essential oils). It’s a topic that we don’t talk about too frequently on our blog because there are clearly very different viewpoints. But I would like to provide further resources on using essential oils internally for those that are interested in reading some unbiased research.
Alma, please check out Piping Rock more carefully. Their EOs have been tested and the several that were have been found to be adulterated.
You can find results on the Essential Oil Consumer Reports FB page.
There are many foods and drinks we buy that the flavoring is…. essential oils.
Many essential oils are generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA.
I’ve been consuming essential oils for over 6 years.
Why did you not provide testing results for the other companies, like you did for DoTerra and Young Living?
Great question, Sierra. We published only publicly available GC/MS reports that had failed. We weren’t able to find any from online sources, but if you happen to have links to them, please send us an email and we’ll be sure to include them and update our post.
I will only buy from Plant Therapy! They have no failed GCMS testing reports, not overpriced, awesome aromatherapists on staff that answers any questions I may have before purchasing and the customer service, Facebook live videos etc etc.. I could go on and on! I will chose nothing else! No other company I know gives back to the community or customers! I will be a customer for life!
There is a publised one now on lavender from plant therapy that failed conducted by Pappas
Did you check out Starwest Botanicals or Mountain Alternatives?
We did not! But we’ll certainly add these to our list of potential companies for future updates.
Absolutely love Plant Therapy. Great prices and free shipping in the U.S.
But more than that, I love that they teach safe use. You can tell they really care about their customers and not just about selling, selling, selling.
How do you feel Plant Therapy’s quality is compared to other EO brands, Shelly?
I have tried a couple of DoTerra oils but thought they were pretty high priced. After doing a lot of researching on other companies I decided to try Plant Therapy and am 100% satisfied with the quality of oils and the prices. I feel the quality of the oils is comparable to DoTerra with much more reasonable pricing. Also, the free shipping is an added advantage. I love Plant Therapy!
I am a member with Young Living and my family uses them daily and have for years, I have been to the Mona UT farm and was able to see it in action. Very happy with my choice
I only use Young Living as well. No other EO company has a Seed to Seal process. They test their oils internally and 3rd party. Nothing adultered.
I’ve also been to the farm in Mona am gearing up to attend my 3rd convention.
YL also gives back to communities they have a presence in and do great things with the young living foundation.
Why can’t we see the GC/MS results then? Just curious. I like when a company has nothing to hide.
Why not post testing results then?
Then don’t you find it odd the test results came back adulterer lol.
My issue with Young Living is that because it is a MLM company, you are paying way too much for the oils. Not everyone can afford their prices. I started using Revive and am very happy so far.
I use doTERRA and Plant Guru. I’d love to know more about Plant Guru. I’m happy with their oils and the prices, but would like to hear if others are satisfied with them.
I’ve used doTERRA for MANY years. Never really saw any benefits. Thought it was just me.
Going elsewhere, but not sure where.
Doing “the research” first.
My favorite is Plant Therapy. I like that they do the research for kid safety for me and I can contact them if I have any questions. And test results are available BEFORE you buy, without having to go through customer service. I also buy from Eden’s Garden and Aromatics International occasionally. AI has a fantastic supply of lesser known carrier oils that I love. Baobab, kombo, yum.
I have been a Young Living member for over four years. I appreciate that they offer the ability for me to earn an income for referrals, which actually covers the cost of my oils each month. I have never been “pressured to make a sale,” as I don’t actually sell anything. I love their supplements, which my family uses daily, and have experienced improved overall physical and emotional wellness since I’ve started using them. Their cleaning supplies were not mentioned in this article, nor was the makeup line, both of which I use more than the oils. I appreciate that I can replace any of the toxic products in my home with something from YL!
Also, it should be added that YL was the first to share and identify the issue with the cinnamon bark three years ago. This was done through their own evaluation.
Yes to all of this! I took quite some time to decide on what oils to introduce into my lifestyle… like 2 years!
YL was just the best quality, the seed to seal promise ensures that. YL has ditched complete batches if it does not meet their quality standards.
I have a small team and I’m never stressed over my business. I share a lifestyle, I don’t sell stuff. It’s not about the money, it’s about getting EO’s into every home across the globe! Choosing YL has been one of the least stressful decisions of my life. I have people calling me to get their hands on a kit and start their wellness journey! Lastly, the community that comes with being a part of YL is outstanding! You are never alone and entrepreneurs have laid out a path to wellness and abundance. #yleos4life
DITTO!!
I love the vast number of non-toxic products that Young Living carries in addition to the superior quality of the essential oils and supplements.
My life has been extended because of Young Living oils and education.
Young Living since 2012 – various other companies for 25 years prior to that. I have to say there are a few other good companies out there but I have found nothing to compare to the quality of YL. I’ve used other companies Lavender and get an immediate headache and felt nauseaus – thought I was allergic to lavender. But now I use YL lavender daily with no problems – just great relief!!! I have been to their farms, am friends with many healers who only use YL, know so many families with young children and pets who use YL with great results – I do believe sometimes you truly do get what you pay for and it’s also provided great income for me and my family just through sharing the chemical free lifestyle that YL is committed to. Personally I LOVE the MLM business model – especially once I took the time to truly understand it.
I looked hard to find a non MLM EO Company…about 5 of 6 years ago. I found Plant Therapy and fell in love!! Great products, great service and great prices. Fast forward to Summer of 2017: found Simply Earth…realized they were only 15 miles from my home!! They are about 2 years old and have a similar business model of Plant Therapy. Simply Earth gives 13% of profits to help stop human trafficking!!!
I really like Simply Earth. They’re not an MLM and the fact that they support the cause against human trafficking with their profits is a bonus.
I have used several of these brands. I tend to gravitate toward Eden’s garden… but I also love Ancient Apothecary’s quality
You should include Jade Bloom and Barefut, love them both!
I used to be a Young Living distributor and user but became disillusioned with some of the ideologies of the founder and the controversies. I use mostly Rocky Mountain Oils now. Quality is high and prices reasonable. I will also use Plant Therapy, NOW oils and Mountain Rose Herbs, with this last one I use the least because of the extremely high priced and slow shipping. RMO is my favorite.
I’m trying to switch from young living. The recent BBB issue mixed with the truth about their seed to seal promise, and the fact that they won’t share reports for fear of their blend getting stolen is just all I can take.
I’ve been researching RMO, EG and PT. I’ve gone as far as looking at the blends I use like Energee, Endoflex, etc. RMO is the only one that has blends similar. When you look at the PT equivalent there is only 1 maybe 2 matching oils in them. I like PT prices, and the fact that they offer organic. I’m mostly settling on RMO and EG.
I have cats, my concern isn’t for me. It’s for them. I know for a fact I can use YL lavender, Digize, etc on them and in their litter, and diffuse about anything as long as they have an escape. I know Melissa Shelton got away from YL, but I’m concerned I’ll kill my babies if I switch.
I have 3 cats and use Plant Therapy. They are fine.
Check into Hopewell Essential Oils
I love my Edens Garden oils but you left out some very important info about the company!
Their kids line was developed by Robert Pappas and Sylla Sheppard-Hangor. It was formulated to be safe for 1% topical use and safe diffusion for children 2+ years. Dr P also helped reformulated several synergy blends for better effectiveness. They also work in conjunction with Robert Tisserand.
E.G. also offers free shipping on every order in the USA. And for each dollar spent, Aroma Note Rewards can be earned for discounted products.
They offer free returns for products and have a quick and efficient customer service department.
Plus their blog is extremely comprehensive on safe usage, as well as gives creative usage of their many products and lesser known oils.
I only buy Edens Garden!!! They are the best essential oil company out there. Clean, high quality products and I love how good everything looks in my EO cabinet…. the details matter haha. Love that they GCMS test all their oils. No other company does this as well and easy to access as they do. Love that they come out with so many new products all the time too!
I love doTERRA, it has changed my life ????
I love oils by Plant Therapy. They are by far the best quality and I have tried several other brands. You will never be disappointed by your purchase of an essential oil by Plant Therapy
I am a devoted user of essential oils for safe, natural health care. Pure and research based oils are extremely important to me. I have used Rocky Mountain Oils for years and am 100% satisfied. Not only with their oils but their customer service as well. I tried YL and DT before but I am not a fan of direct marketing companies. Their prices and shipping costs were out of line in my opinion. I highly recommend Rocky Mountain Oils.
Do you ingest RMO oils?
I am a DoTerra user. Maybe they are a little pricey compared to some but I love the usability of the product and the fact that it’s so easy to get the information when you have a question. I also like how clearly they’re marked so you know which can be taken internally and which ones can’t. I have had no issues with my pets( I am careful) and while using the oils my husband has been able to give up his RA meds. I trust the product and love their sustainability project.
I have RA. What oils does your husband use to help his RA?
I love the DōTERRA products. I have been using them for over a year and been healthier than ever. They also have a loyalty rewards program that enables you to get free products. DōTERRA does give back to local communities. They help create co-ops where products are sourced from so that everyone benefits from it. They also will help make the lives easier by getting clean water sources, health care and schools set up where needed. They don’t just hire someone to do people from all over the world within the organization get a chance to go and to the work. The ability to give back is what is important.
We love and use doTerra
I’ve been using essential oils for around 10 years. I’ve tried DoTERRA, the NOW brand, and Young Living. DoTerra and Now are almost impossible for me to tell apart using. Both were watered down or ‘pre-diluted’ on oils that needed no dilution. Young Living oils are changing my life emotionally and physically. RMO and DoTerra Cust service were really mean when I asked about their farming practices, no one from Now had any answers or records of where their raw materials (plants) came from.
If you can’t be open about your plants, I don’t want your oils.
I super appreciated your review or these companies. I found it really fair, and did not know about the BBB thing with YL. They have switched farms for Cinnamon, and Peppermint since the off batches, though.
I love Hopewell essential oils. They provide test results, have excellent customer service and even do custom blends. The best part for me, is they offer every oil in a 2ml size. This has saved me a fortune, as often I only need a few drops of a certain oil.
I love Hopewell too, sweet Christian family that runs it and great quality!
Young living works period… the cream de la cream hands down. If you cant afford the good stuff that’s a shame the rest are garbage.
It is a shame you are dedicated to this company. Perhaps you should research essential oils and their contraindications as well as their usage. Like ratio of each oil , etc
It is a real stretch to say “the rest is garbage” when the data says otherwise
When I first started using essential oils I didn’t know anything about quality or brands for that matter, I bought what smelled good. The only thing I used them for was aromatherapy and that’s what most of the people I knew used oils for.
Since way back then I have become more educated on the uses for essential oils and how quality does matter. So now I shop for quality and price, not just how good they smell.
But one thing I still remain hesitant of is any company or persons who have to push relentlessly, aggressively and in a condescending tone on how great their product is.
After reading this review and others, and reading the comments by some of the YL loyalists, I believe I will stay away from YL products.
I have to agree with you Robin. It seems the YL people are beating “perfection” into everyone. They don’t seem to see the posted facts and talk entire smack about any of the other mentioned brands. Its a shame that they feel the need to do this to get the other oil users to jump on their band wagon. I don’t need negativity to jump on. I use oils on all my babies (husband, kids, animals) and would NEVER talk down about any oil people chose to use. I do prefer a specific brand and have been a loyal user of said brand. I’m sad for the YL pusher that feel the need to slander others. Lets build each other up and celebrate the fact that there are so many companies that supply so many different oils. Its up to us, PERSONALLY, to decide what is right for our family. keep doing you oil users and stop the slander.
I don’t see the point bringing up who can afford what, we all want the best products. I use Ameo because consumer advocate tested their products and found they’re not adulterated in any way. Several YL former businessmen also trust the brand. I trust the brand, after countless hours research.
Jade Bloom has amazing oils and selection. I am also a huge fan of Rocky Mountain Oils because of their excellent customer service.
I am interested in starting a business selling oils. Are Young living and do Terra the only two companies that help people get started and offer a compensation plan? I am wanting to find the best quality pure oils with the cheapest price tag.
As far as I know they are!
Simply Earth has an option to get their oils at wholesale prices upon approval. They are an excellent company with 100% pure oils. No agenda….no mlm. I left doTERRA for them. Never looked back.
I have been using Young Living for several years. I have never had any problems with any thing I have ordered. The company land the people have always been very helpful.
I started out with DoTerra and love their oils but not the pricing. The MLM business model made me switch.
I’ve been using mostly Rocky Mountain Oils for 5 years and love them!! Cannot say a negative about them! Customer service is amazing and I love the free shipping.
Been using dōTERRA for 3 years! Love the oils & products and can “smell” the difference when compared to low-quality oils purchased at major retail stores.
I’ve been with Young Living for 3 yrs.
Love the all the products.
Customer Service is fantastic.
And upline is a tremendous help
Young living is a great company. You failed to tell “the rest of the story” with the cinnamon bark. I can’t get the article to paste but the problem wasn’t with the oil, it was with the library of the machine and the people interpreting the report. You also did not mention that Young Living gives back tremendously in the form of the Young Living Foundation
The Cinnamon Bark from YL was adulterated with synthetic sinnamaldehyde and synthetic linalool. There were several sealed bottles sent to two different laboratories, one to Essential Oil University Lab (USA) and one to PhtoChemia Laboratoire (Canada) and both test came back that the sample has been adulterated. As a consumer we should be able to review the GC-MS on an oil. There is no big secret about the properties and components of an oil. I recommend the book on “Essential Oil Safety “ by Robert Tisserand.
This is a huge dea for me. I currently have memberships with DoTerra and YL, but am thinking about getting away from both due to the Pryamid system. I read the article to see what other options I have. My main question is, “If YL is so pure, why are there issues with giving the batch information? People are religious about this company, but I do not get a lot of hard evidence form it. That being said, I like YL’s eucalyptus and DoTerra’s Lavender. The grapefruit is great in both companies.
Please please please research the founder of this company. Donald Gary Young Junior committed infantcide to his own child and was imprisoned multiple times for practicing and OPENING clinics without a medical degree of any kind. Look at the multiple newspaper documents of this online. I’m a certified herbalist and use essential oils for many clients and myself- and I wouldn’t feel right or comfortable selling these highly adulterated oils from an untrustworthy company.
Agree~ Blessings and Prayers to all researching and using the best oils!
Thank you for this report! I started with Young Living and have fallen in love with EO’s!!! I find YL to be a bit expensive so I have ventured out to Rocky Mountain, Mountain Rose and Plant Therapy. Some I like better than others from the different companies. I still have not settled on one line for my EO needs!!! Is it wrong to use them all!?!?!
I am not loyal to a single essential oil company but I do have a short list of non mlm suppliers. I shop several shops because they do not all have the same single oils. I think it is a shame when people miss out on using new and interesting oils because they are loyal to a brand that does not carry them.
Is anyone familiar with Revive EO’s? I have reading good things about them.
I am also curious about Revive EO!
My mom just sent me their link. She read an article that compared them to YL and Dōterra I believe and the results were good! This has sent me on a mission to look into other companies. I currently use YL, which I love, but I can’t afford them anymore. Between the high price of the oils and the shipping costs I need to find another source. I do ingest some of the oils that are safe to do so, and I would like to continue this. I am concerned about the purity of other brands, but hopeful that there are other options besides YL. I’ll be looking into Revive-EO and would love to hear more feedback on this company. Thank you for this post!
I have been using YL and also buying REVIVE now. So far I have been happy with the REVIVE oils I have tried. I like the additional Thieves products from YL but I am getting some oils from REVIVE because YL costs are just to high.
Revive was the company I was hoping was reviewed here! Have been with YL for over 3 years and just can’t afford the ER monthly minimum! Plus I have a ridiculous amount of oils stocked up! I want to be able to just buy what I need when I need it for a reasonable price.
You can cancel your er anytime and buy when you want. All you are asked as a member is to spend 50.00 a year. The difference from er and quick orders are that you don’t get you 10 to 25% rebate you get from er.
I am a YL member and have been for 4 years now. The benefits of doing the business side IF YOU CHOOSE is undeniably a great way to make residual income. You are never forced to become a member. You have the option to purchase retail or wholesale and you have the option to do the business side or not do it.
Every company has good reviews and bad reviews.
You cannot be blinded by those. Just like the media out there….
I for one know the quality and live the lifestyle of these YL products and know the company gives back to many other areas in our world .
My health and my children’s health and my pets have all improved with the faithful and proper use of Young Living products.
To each his/her own.
You do not have to participate in the ER program. You can just order what you need when you need it. I use it and love it but I have 1 supplement I use everyday so I always purchase around $50 every month. I love using my credits on something I usually wouldn’t spend money on.
I’ve been using REVIVE oils instead of DoTerra for about 4mos now and other than the Frankincense and Helichrysum I can’t tell a difference. I much prefer DoTerra Frank and Heli but I’m much more satisfied quality and price wise with all the other oils REVIVE offers. AND REVIVE offers oils DoTerra doesn’t. Like German Chamomile. Anyway, the cost of DoTerra and YL have become prohibitive now they I am on a fixed income I thank the powers that be that I found REVIVE. Also I LOVE that REVIVE offers their own versions of DoTerra and YL blends. Because I used a LOT of the blends.
What do you see different in the frankincense? That’s what I was interested in since doTERRA’s is so pricey
Revives version of doTerras Frank will be available at the end of July…its called Frank King
I have ordered a few times from them and not been dissappointed. Shipping is free with a $50 order and their prices are very reasonable. Not to mention that the shipping is very fast. I am new to oils and started off with YL. I love the Thieves and Panaway, but that is the only oils I buy now from them. I just bought the “YL” blends from Revive and just received them today and havent tried them yet. I prefer to stay away from MLM companies. Prices are just to high and YL will rape you with their shipping cost.
I just ordered a few oils from Revive for the first time! I have also used Edens Garden which I really like!! Has anyone used the CBD oil from Revive?
I started with Doterra and then added YL. I have slowly made the switch to Edens Garden and most recently ordered a box from Revive. I want to avoud MLM. Edens n Revive at the moment seems to work with me coz i do get sensitive to some of YL n Doterra oils. I am still evaluating !;
I have just started using Revive. They have an online chat that pops up as you are browsing and have questions. They have free shipping and returns and are soooo much cheaper than YL and DoTerra. I read an independent study of the top 5 companies and decided to give this Revive a try.
I just ordered my first 5 oils from Revive. I have always been a devoted Young Living oil user but the mark up and shipping cost are just too much for me. I immediately opened them to smell them and they all smelled just like the Young Living oils I have. I am very excited to be able to afford so much more. I make all of our home cleaners, soaps and sprays, so I go through bottles of oils fairly quickly.
Florhiana Essential oils. Check them out and give comments.
Yesss. Florihana!!! I am excited to see reviews and reports on this brand. They seem to be amazing and price point seems good as well.
Great information. I have used Leydet oils from Emily’s Oils since the mid 90’s. I am very happy with them. Occasionally Ii will use Original Swiss Aromatics, Pompeii Organics, Oshadhi, and Plant Therapy.
I was wondering about aromatics, can’t find much reviews on them, but it seems to be a safe and trusting line?… any feedback would be great!
Anyone ever use Camp wander oils?
I have, and so far I’ve been very satisfied with CW’s salves and oil blends. Great customer service, too.
Does anyone know anything about “nature’s essentials” I’ve came across her on ebay and she swears by her product . Even says she was mentioned in a book and another source. We talked a bit and it seems legit I just haven’t seen or heard anything anywhere & have looked everywhere …
dōTERRA is the only company I would ever buy and use essential oils from. I love, know and trust both the COMPANY AND the product! There is SO much available info on all that the company does and all of the oils. People like to say bad things about all companies including dōTERRA but I say.. do your own research and I guarantee you will find what works best for you. For me that is dōTERRA. I have never been healthier (my skin/eczema, my asthma, my anxiety, my overall health & wellbeing) than I am now and I can 100% day it is because of the choices I have made in my lifestyle and by choosing to use these oils.
dōTERRA have SO many amazing projects where they give back to the community all over the world and they give anyone involved with the company the opportunity to go and be part of these projects. Their oils are sourced ethically and if they cannot sourcebit ethically they won’t source it at all until they find a way to do it ethically.
dōTERRA have set out to change the world and I know that they will succeed because they have already changed my life and everyday I see them change another life and another and another! and I am glad and proud to be a part of that journey!
Also… just on the dōTERRA MLM business model… it is AMAZING. I have never heard a bad report… but here’s the thing.. nothing gets handed to you on a silver platter.. you have to work for things… if you are not willing to work hard you can’t expect to earn something from it!
Thank you for pure oils so for I am happy price is always an issue for me. I am retired and try and shop around for many things. Shopping for food and natural health is a lot of work but it’s nice when you do it to find companies that put out a lot of true information and examples. I wish we could trust our food and health care like we could in the old days. I wish the government would re -search what people say about their products and write on and make sure it is true and what they say on TV it’s important for people to be able to believe advertisements. They like to get into everything else and that is actually important to us. I don’t think companies should sell on places like amazon eBay etc. when they have people join their company because they believe in the product and want to share but also make a living. They are hurting the personal touch to customers and could offer more to their consultants instead of giving them more competitors to compete with. I would be nice if they could lower their prices or have more sales. Doterra keep giving us good products to offer but hold down the price so more people could enjoy them. ????????
Have you checked Revive Oils? In a different test article, v they rated higher than doTERRA. I was suspect they were an offshoot from Young Living, however. Would like to know your opinion.
Where would revive oils rank amount these companies?
I did a LOT of research before beginning my journey with Young Living! I came to trust that they are the best! For so many reasons. My apiary and doing research around bees lead me deeper and further into researching and seeking out the best EO! Better than organic! Seed to Seal!! Farmers first! So much care has gone into their products. Because they are the best and in the top, they get the eagle eye on them and if there is ever a mistake made, they are grilled for it! They won’t be 100% perfect, but they get pretty close in my opinion and the heart behind the company is to do a top quality job! Couple that with the fact that, they allow people to sell their quality products and give so many families a decent and beyond decent income opportunity! I don’t think this is a bad thing and celebrate when I can buy something for my home from another Mom, family, friend, Dad, hard working entrepreneur, etc! I always have the ability to say no or yes and am thankful so much for direct sales opportunities like this and others! I have seen regular people do hard work and be promoted and compensated for their hard work! Such a beautiful thing!! Not something you always get in a day to day job! This companies’ customer service is top notch! As big as they are, I can call in and talk with a person on the other side of the line, and with little wait time! I have visited the farm in Mona and WOW! Just WOW! Blew me away! Solidified the decision I made to join this family based company who just WOW! Knocks it out of the park! These oils are a gift to me and mine!
I would like to know about Revive oils as well.
I saw Revive as number one on another study and wondered why it wasn’t mentioned here at all.
I just ordered from Revive.
I am curious about REVIVE oils also.
I’d be curious on your review of Revive EO?
Anyone heard of a small start up called Selah EO based in the Houston area?
I heard from my dil that SELAH is awesome..
I began investigating GURUNANDA Essential Oils last fall.
I found the company to be A1 and the owner Puneet Nanda to be transparent and honest in all of his oils and products.
There is GC/MS 3rd party testing results for every oil on his website. He also has several informational video about his products and the production of the oils on site around the world.
Available on his website GuruNanda.com, Amazon and Walmart. You can also become a wholesale distributor and offer reward points.
I use Young Living and love that I get my oils FREE each month because I simply SHARE what they have done for me. With a very little bit of work , I get oils free each month, but as I share more, my income increases…. all while doing what I love and that is teaching ( I’m an educator by profession). The harder I work, the more I earn…. no cap. That is a huge blessing and all the while, I help others and they have the opportunity to do the same! Families helping families!! I don’t support one family who makes all the $. With YL, each family is blessed and uses the finest products available.
I love what I do and love my Young Living Oils, clean make-up, clean home products, clean personal products, with pure essential oils infused into all of this!
totally agree..no looking back for me and my family ..morethan a year no that i did not buy over the counter pills for my families fever..cough..colds ..tummy aches..muscle pains..cuts..bruise..burns..eczema..etc..just this oils from YL and their supplements do all the work..really thankful for a friend who introduce it to me and the rest to whom i shated this product was also so very thankful to me…how cool is that..and yes the free oils..the rewards..the company’s generosities and wuick reply and actions..no questions asked..immediate replacement if u have complains..thumbs up!
I became a member of YL when I became interested in EOs and clean living etc. But then I felt it was a bit cultish – mainly when I was invited to all of these facebook groups. It was weird. I also decided I didn’t want to be part of an MLM. Since then I have been using EG, RMO, and PT and have been very satisfied with them.
Personally, I don’t ingest my EOs but mainly use them for diffusion, topical application, and cleaning. I think you need to be really careful when taking EOs internally, and I honestly don’t think anyone has done enough research to show that EOs are effective and don’t have any negative consequences when used this way.
I have also used NOW for cleaning, and Aura Cacia for both diffusion and cleaning. I will only use USDA Organic around my kids/pets. I appreciate the transparency of EG and PT for using 3rd party testing – to me that’s way better than any “promise” these other companies offer.
Everyone has to decide for themselves what is best for them and their family. Thanks for this informative article!
the FB group is mainly for members where only members shared their experiences no outsiders..mainly personal experiences..so all truth nothing but the truth..what is wrong with that? atleast ur are learning and getting ur informations on people thatt actually uses the product and have personal experiences on it..ino hearsay.. I guess this is the best and reliable infos u can get that reading from social medias..all i can say YL really works..u are not reqiured to sell.it us just an option for you and health is an investment not a expense..quality has its price cheao product produces cheap result and danger ?
Hi MICHELLE,
You and I are alike in the same aspects of , “DOING THE RESEARCH”.
I came really close to buying YL, and very glad I didn’t. I’ve read every comment about YL in this feed and can’t help but wonder if most of them are simply “pushing the product”? I mean, it’s a MLM company and that’s what these companies do after all.
Too many RED FLAGS with YL. Think I might opt for RMO or Now.
Still not ? on my decision.
Research, research, research?
Thank you momprepares.com for your valuable AND time-consuming reviews!
I’m wondering about Bulk Apothecary. I think they changed hands in the last year or two and their quality might have changed but I would like to know what you think. I have appreciated their products because I make my own lotions and soaps and deodorants.
Have you looked at Hopewell Essentual Oils. I have used them and have been pleased. I would appreciate your thoughts.
I also use Hopewell
I am curious about PIPING ROCK oils. Did anyone know anything about them?
My journey into EOs began about 3 years ago. I was given some samples of doTerra from a friend who sells it. That was my introduction and have been addicted ever since. I started with aura cacia and I started my research and found that there was way to much controversy (for me) on young living products, doTerra was a complete turn off knowing that I could only perchase them with a membership or pay higher prices. I don’t like those companies. I finally landed on Edens Garden. The reviews and product quality fit my needs. I appreciate the free shipping in the states. I love there products and have been extremely happy. Also, While I was doing my research on EOs I came across a couple articles from the FDA that said they can not 100% regulate the EOs and they should not be ingested. Which I’m fine with. I prefer to use topically and diffuse them. I continue my journey with much research and respect for essential oils.
Thank you for this. Many of theses companies sell oils that are not “therapeutic” grade, i.e., safe for ingestion. It would be helpful to note those that do. I would never ingest NOW or Aura Cacia. Interesting info on Young Living and DoTerra.
I have been buying from Ananda Apothecary for several years. Owner died this year and wife took over. I am not happy with how the company has been operating since then. No longer trust the quality of the product. Looking for another reliable supplier. Thanks,
Thank you SO MUCH for this guide – it is sorely needed in the community! In fact, your site is altogether brilliant and SO MUCH appreciated! I ran across it as my brother just bought me a bunch of GuruNanda brand oils – a company I am not familiar with, but I guess it is the brand they are carrying at Walmart now? I love the information you’ve included here and I learned some new information about my favorite brands on here that I really appreciate having!
You’re very welcome, Nathara! I would do a bit more research on “Walmart brands.” Certain aromatherapists have had some nasty things to say about how adulterated they are. Pure and organic often come with a slightly bigger price tags than the “budget brands,” but they don’t necessarily need to be extremely overpriced. Always best to do your research, try a few brands, perhaps run your own GC/MS tests if you so wish, and go from there :)
Welcome to our community :)
I absolutely love Eden’s Garden…
Their high quality products, great customer service, easy and informative website, quick free delivery, and commitment to worthy causes are reasons for my continued loyalty. Great variety of oils, even kid friendly line. Would highly recommend to anyone serious about using essential oils!
I’m searching for a new company to purchase my oils from, and found this article extremely helpful! Has anyone done research on Jade Bloom? I’ve been thier customer for over a year and was very happy up until recently. They released a product that contained an unnatural, gmo ingredient and it made me doubt them. I contacted them about my concerns and never heard back.. I can’t find any articles or reviews like this that include them!
Hi Amber,
Which product?
Amber,
Don’t buy if you feel uneasy. Trust your gut feelings.
BRAVO????Bravo????BRAVO????…
Your hardworking findings have put together one of the Most informative… EASY to read and informative articles that I have came across!
Thanks, so much Kristine :) Glad you found our article helpful.
It is ok if one person likes one company vs another, just do your research and make sure the oil is pure and not adulterated with synthetics stuff. Educate yourself on the products before you by them and buy books that will help you understand how to use the oils. There are on-line classes on aromatherapy that will help understand on how to formulate the oils to make blends. I have listen to over 50 hours of lectures and learned so much. Doctors, Aromatherapist have suggested trying 3-4 different companies. I am currently using YL, PT and the new company Revive. This new company uses Essential Oil University Lab for it’s third party testing by world known chemist Dr. Robert Pappas. Plus you can review the GC-MS test results on their website. They do not have a huge inventory like the big companies and do offer free shipping.
This review has been great. New to EO’s, this was good for me. A real learning experience.
I have narrowed it down to 3 and will work from this point. My thought is you don’t have to pay a fortune for quality, DT and YL are not the only act in town. Not looking for MLM company.
Thanks again!
Thanks for stopping by, Wendy :) Glad you found our guide helpful.
I am happy to have seen this information. I figured the comments would be everyone for their own brand. What about Stillpoint Aromatics?
We’ll have to take a look into them in our next update :)
Thank you for the great research – very informative. I am just starting my essential oils journey and have used the Now brands but am looking to venture out. i am primarily diffusing but would like to also begin using them topically. Based on your evaluation and the comments above I think I may just give Plant Therapy a try next. Thanks again!
You’re welcome! Glad you found our post helpful. Hope Plant Therapy works out for you!
I think the following – recently released – information is relevant to the discussion here.
“These proteomic profiling studies further confirmed that the effects of dōTERRA essential oils were not replicated by a single major component and essential oils from different competitors had minimal effects.
The results of the research indicate that the implications of “The Oil Effect” are significant, says Dr. Le. His studies suggest that the quality of essential oils is the combination of chemistry and biochemistry, and that biochemical analytics are required to fully assess the quality of essential oils.
Dr. Talbot adds that the therapeutic potential of essential oils is highly dependent on the complete composition of the oil. Sourcing, processing and characterization are critical.”

Hope this is helpful! It meant a great deal to me as an independent source of very sophisticated research.
This article was very informative and helpful.. I have used Young Living oils since its beginning in the early 1990’s I have never been disappointed with the quality of the oils even though they are expensive. Customer service is amazing. I did not receive a shipment and they immediatley send a replacement. Occassionally I will venture out to try a new company that I hear about. I have tried oils from Rocky Mountain, Mountain Rose Herbs, Healing Solutions, doTerra and Aromatics International. I always return to Young Living. You did not mention Aromatics International in your review and would be interested if you know anything about them.
I have been looking for any indication of Melaleuca’s essential oils vs others. Does anyone have experience with Melaleuca? We have been a member for a year, but I just saw some of the oils in Sprouts. I believe the brand I saw in Sprouts was NOW Foods and was as expensive or cheaper with double the amount of oil.
Thanks for any help!
Thanks for doing the research and all the great insight! Fantastic article.
I currently use YL and DoTerra. I love them both except the cost. I ingest a few minimally and diffuse and use topically quite a bit. I’d love to learn more of your research on the Revive company.
Really interesting and informative guide, well done! Although I’m outside USA so not familiar with most of these brands.
This was informative.
I’ve been using Simply Earth oils lately. I like their subscription box and they appear from my research to be a credible company with pure oils. I like how they support the fight against Human Trafficking thru their contributions and website.
I know you can’t review all companies but have you heard of it?
I found you because I was researching Revive Oils and your site came up in Google search. :)
I’ve also used YL, Doterra, Now, and Plant Therapy. I have a box full of oils. I may or may not be addicted. LOL. There could be worse things.
I can’t thank you enough for this information and for the replies left here from other interested EO users. I have recently purchased several online and although I am happy with my purchases I wish I had read your analysis first. I look forward to actually purchasing from some of the companies with high reviews and the most comprehensive reports.
My sister in law sells do Terra and I just cannot do the price. It seems excessive when I compare it to other like oils. I do want quality and purity but not at an exaggerated cost. Thank you for the work and time you put into this article.
This article is straightforward and gives a lot of detail you don’t find everywhere. Thank you for the work and research in putting it together. I just happened upon Re-vive and they have my interest. I hope to see third party testing on their oil line soon (not asking you to do so… just stating that I am interested). The EO market is very overwhelming and it’s sad because it shouldn’t be.
All this information was extremely helpful. I am just beginning to use essential oils and look forward to the results. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
Thank you for your review; it is quite thorough!!! I am new to essential oils, and I am so glad to find your help. Thank you for informing us and helping us to help others. I am wanting to sell and use oils with my massage therapy practice… but NEED to make sure I use quality oils and know how to blend for various “issues.” I look forward to reading al the info. on your site. You ladies are impressive!
My first EO was DoTerra starter set. Intriguing, so I started researching and trying. I love Plant Therapy, Edens garden, Now, and Barefut. I have tried a few others but were fails. I will not rip them down here, just my money doesn’t go to their hands. I have been enjoying my oil journey and have ventured into some herb use also. It is more the safety issues and prices that I have avoided and will not ever return to MLM companies. Be wise. You will find a perfect fit or two for you. ps: Florahana is great if you get it through healthy traditions. Shipping is sooooo much better.
Wishing you had more info on Revive, the price point is great. Currently using Young Living and they are SOOOO expensive. If I didn’t have to basically give the gal that signed me up 50% it would actually be affordable, just saying….not a fan of pyramid companies.
This comprehensive review of companies you’very compiled was so incredibly useful.
I also found the comments section to be very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to put together this very well organized review. Thank you to all those who have commented before me as well. I read every single comment, and like so many before me I would definitely love to know how Re-vive measures up. Is there any chance you could do an addendum to this article just to add Re-vive anytime soon since there are so many of us interested in knowing their results?
I know you’d make a huge portion of your readers incredibly thrilled.
Again thank you for this easy to understand comprehensive review.
Just a side note, I didn’t copy down all of the EO brand names I came across while reading the comments. I copied the ones I wanted to potentially check out due to what was being said about them and my list has 20 more Essential Oil Brand names on it. :) The market has definitely become saturated.
Thank you for your research.
IMO, its hands down for YL
Awesome article! Thanks so much for your diligent work! I would love to know your thoughts on Ancient Apothecary; Dr. Josh Axe’s eo brand.
I am so glad I happened to find your article because I am just getting interested in essential oils and finding it very hard to know which companies are the safest and best prices I can get and you definitely gave me some more to check out and I am amazed there are so many different ones. Thank You for fantastic information which I have written down some of the companies you have talked about on here and that’s helped me a lot.
how long does it take for the oils to work for health issues
I just ordered four bottles from REVIVE. I can’t wait to see how they smell! I am a YL member but need to find cheaper, quality oils as they are so expensive even with ER points.
I would be interested in seeing how Melaleuca essential oil products measure up. Also MLM, but seem reasonably priced.
I’ve used Young’s Living, Rocky Mountain, Plant Therapy, and Now. Really like Rocky Mountain, but they’re a bit more expensive than Plant Therapy and Now.
I don’t use Young’s any more because of the multi level marketing. And read some where some oils aren’t really pure. Also I attended a couple classes and felt it was a little too new age for me. One class used Biblical scripture that made it sound like oils did the healing, not Jesus.
I love Hopewell Essential Oils. The oils are top quality, service is excellent and the website is very helpful and easy to use. I also have used RMO, YL and Bulk Apothecary.
Like several others here, I too am relatively new to EOs. I started with the doterra which was given to me by a friend that sold it and was immediately hooked on oils. I have tried some of YL also but I’m definitely not interested in the MLM industry! I two would love to hear more about Revive as I’ve ordered five different oils that compared well to doterra and yl. They have a good online presence but the jury is still out on the quality. Thank you so much for your indepth research! It certainly cleared up a lot of questions! The comments have been extremely enlightening as well! Looking forward to the REVIVE review.
Hi Lauren,
Great article on essential oils! My wife and I (in our 60s) have been using them for many years. Now too trusting of Drs. knowledge of natural therapies and certainly dont trust big pharma! Anytime she feels a headache coming on, she grabs her peppermint oil and it almost always goes away. We have both been told we need root canals and have self treated with garlic or clove oil whenever we feel pain and it’s been over 5 years and no root canals!
Keep up the good work!
Until another company is willing to expose how they process their oils I will stick with Young Living, so far the other companies I have looked at either use alcohol in their process or they use other unnatural methods. Some of them use other oils in their oils but because they use a “small enough” amount are allowed to sell them as pure.
Rocky Mountain oils hands down the best company. Second choice would be plant therapy. Both amazing . I chose those after doing extensive research and trying them out personally.
Thank you so much. Fabulous reviews and really great way you have structured your article which is easy to read, understand and remember! I so appreciate what you have done!
Great review. There are not many unbiased reviews out there. I am just starting with essential oils so I’ve been looking for good information. I’ve come across a company called Florihana. I would love to know what you think about this company. It was highly recommended to me for an unbiased user and shopper.
I am going to give Revive a try! Bonus that they don’t sell on the wealth disparity maker A**zon. We need to choose to spread the wealth so everyone stands a chance at success. There should not be an *everyone’s go-to” for all things commerce. I read great reviews on this product on a few other sites. My understanding is the plants are all wild harvest, but the test results for each batch are posted on the site! If i can find my way back here, i’ll report on them.
Is Young Living and Do Terra the only companies out there that are safe for ingesting?
What companies have good educational resources? I am new to essential oils and unsure where to start.
Hi. I use YL because it’s easy for me and I visit local health food stores. Also, I do extensive research and review academic/peer reviewed articles on how to use an essential oil or plant matter. A great way to ingest plant matter safely is to drink organic tea from a safe source in moderation. Essential oils are concentrated and a user should proceed with caution although most oils on the market are probably not at a medicinal dose. Not all essential oils or botanicals should be ingested or should be ingested in small amounts at intervals.
I used YL for many years, really was satisfied, but can no longer afford them. I was going to try doTerra, but didn’t want to go with another MLM. I still have many bottles of YL, but as I run out I started ordering PT and Revive-eo. I find once you start researching other EO you certainly become more versed and want to try more, not just reordering like I did with YL. I ordered rollerball bottles and inhale bottles and want to start using them with different mixes. There are so many recipes on the web I’ll never run out of new ways to use EOs. Have fun on your journey checking out all the options.
Thanks for sharing this amazing idea. recently, I have started a feminine wellness tea business that name is tea pleaser. It was interesting and helpful in boosting our immune system.
