Commercial mouthwashes may offer a feeling of temporary cleanness, but they’re actually full of chemicals, alcohol, and artificial colors that do more harm than good.
Our homemade mouthwash recipe gives you the minty flavor you’re looking for but actually benefits your mouth and teeth.
Shelf Life: 1 week
Benefits: Both the mint tea and the peppermint oil help to freshen breath and kill odor causing bacteria.
Sea salt and Himalayan salt are full of minerals, help to kill of bacteria, reduce inflammation of the gums, and help to heal any cuts or wounds in the mouth.
Our enamel is meant to be full of minerals but due to many factors including dietary choices (high sugar, caffeine, alcohol, etc.), our teeth can become demineralized.
Adding trace minerals helps to remineralize your teeth (as does eating a healthy diet).
The stevia/xylitol are purely for flavor and can be omitted.
Tips and Tricks: Make sure you’re using an unrefined salt that is rich in minerals, like Himalayan salt. Table salt will not work here because it contains no minerals and can actually cause damage when used long term.
Variations: Just like in our toothpaste recipes, cinnamon, spearmint, myrrh, and clove are all great essential oil options for oral hygiene, and can be used in place of peppermint oil.

What are the “trace minerals”?
